- Ministry of Education has released latest edition of “All India Survey on Higher Education” (AISHE) 2019-2020.
- As per the survey, numbers of institutions of national importance have increased to 135 in 2020 from 75 in 2015.
- There has been a growth of 11.4 per cent in student enrolment from 2015-16 to 2019-20.
- The rise in female enrolment in higher education during the period is 18.2 per cent.
- Total enrolment in higher education is 3.85 crore (Improved by 3.04%) in 2019-20.
- It was 3.74 crore in 2018-19 & 3.42 crore in 2014-15.
- Gender parity Index has also improved (1.01).
- Number of PhDs has increased by 60 per cent since 2015.
Tamil Nadu
- Tamil Nadu as it has a gross enrolment ratio (GER) of 51.4% in higher education, almost double the national average,
- In fact, the state’s GER exceeds the National Education Policy’s target of 50% to be achieved in the year 2030.
- The state’s GER has increased from 32.9% in 2010-11 to 51.4% in 2019-20.
