The Union Cabinet has recently approved amendments to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012.
These amendments aim to make punishment more stringent for committing sexual crimes against children.
The amendments provide for the options of stringent punishment, including the death penalty, for committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault crime on a child.
The amendments (section-9) provide for the protection of children from sexual offences in times of natural calamities and disasters.
