AMRUT mission got extended

  • This scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • Government of India extended the deadline of its flagship scheme AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) by two more years to 2022.

About AMRUT

  • The mission was launched in 2015 by PM Modi for urban renewal by March 2020.
  • The programme was preceded by Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
  • The Mission will focus on the Thrust Areas like Water Supply, Sewerage management, etc.
  • The Mission covers 500 cities that includes all cities and towns with a population of over one lakh with notified Municipalities.
