A buffalo death due to Anthrax has been reported at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam.
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has the highest concentration of one-horned rhinos in the world and is often called ‘Mini Kaziranga’ due to similar landscape and vegetation.
Anthrax is a serious infectious disease caused by bacteria known as Bacillus anthracis.
Anthrax can be fatal for humans who come in contact with infected animals.
It does not typically spread directly between people
It can occur in four forms: skin, lungs, intestinal, and injection.
It is characterised by blisters around swellings on the skin, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and fever.
