- The Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Surveillance Network has published its annual report for 2023.
- 55% of the antibiotics were prescribed not for the treatment of an infection, but to prevent one.
- It is estimated that bacterial AMR was directly responsible for 1.27 million global deaths in 2019 and contributed to 4.95 million deaths.
- The Lancet warns that AMR pathogens could kill over 39 million people by 2050.
