- On August 28, 1949, the Ministry of Defence announced that December 7 will be celebrated as Armed Forces Flag Day.
- It is to honour the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought & continue to fight on our borders to safeguard the country's honour.
- It is celebrated to collect funds for the betterment of the forces.
