  • August 2022 marks an important occasion of the 55th anniversary of ASEAN.
  • ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
  • The theme of this year’s ASEAN Day is “Stronger Together”.
  • The year 2022 also marks the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations.
  • 2022 is the 10th anniversary of India’s Strategic Partnership with ASEAN.
  • ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • It was the result of the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration).
  • The motto of ASEAN is “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.
  • The founding members are - Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
  • Currently it has 10 member countries.
  • ASEAN Plus Three includes - China, South Korea, and Japan.
  • ASEAN Plus Six includes - ASEAN Plus Three as well as India, Australia, and New Zealand.
