- Ashwani Lohani, who was at the helm of Air India for two years was appointed as the Chairman of the Railway Board.
- Incumbent Chairman of the Railway Board A.K.Mital tendered his resignation following back-to-back train accidents.
- Ashwani Lohani has also served as the India Tourism Development Corporation chairman and headed the Rail Museum
