  • It was released by the UN’s world meteorological organization.
  • The developed nations incurred the bulk of $3.6 trillion in economic losses because of severe weather events in past five decades.
  • The High death tolls in poorer countries have been partly reduced by better evacuation.
  • Three out of 10 world’s costliest disasters occurred in 2017 alone namely - hurricanes Harvey ($96.9bn), Maria ($69.4bn) and Irma ($58.2bn).
