The Supreme Court has granted bail to Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict AG Perarivalan.
Perarivalan is serving a life sentence in connection with the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
He has served 32 years in prison till now.
In 2014, his death sentence and that of two others, Murugan and Santhan (both Sri Lankan Tamils), was commuted to life over the long pendency of their mercy petitions by the Apex court.
The Council of Ministers of the Government of Tamil Nadu had recommended Perarivalan's release on September 9, 2018 to the Governor under Article 161 (pardoning power) of the Indian Constitution.
