- The United States and the Philippines began the 34th iteration of their biggest annual bilateral exercise known as Balikatan.
- Balikatan, a Filipino term meaning “shoulder-to-shoulder” or “sharing the load together”.
- Australia and Japan will join as observers of this exercise.
- It will focus on a variety of missions, including mutual defence, counterterrorism, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
