Ban on CBI

November 30 , 2018 2104 days 862 0
  • Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal state governments withdrew the ‘General Consent’ accorded to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to conduct its operations in their states.
  • Unlike the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is governed by its own NIA Act, 2008 and has jurisdiction across the country.
    • The CBI is governed by the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.
  • This makes consent of a state government mandatory for conducting investigation in that state.
