- Israeli Navy has announced to procure multi-purpose Barak 8 missile defense system, jointly developed by India and Israel.
- It will be used by Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar-6 corvettes to expand its operational capabilities of the Israeli navy.
- Barak-8 (Lightning 8 in Hebrew), also known as also known as LR-SAM or as MR-SAM is an operational air and missile defense system.
- It has a maximum speed of Mach 2 with a maximum operational range of 70 km (which has been increased to 100 km)
- The missile provides broad aerial and point defense against a wide range of threats to the marine arena from the air, sea or land.
