- Second BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise 2020 has been started in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is organizing the BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise 2020 on behalf of the Government of India.
- The exercise will also stress upon restoring heritage sites damaged due to disasters.
- The exercise is held under the Theme: “A Cultural Heritage Site that suffers severe damage in the Earthquake and Flooding or Storm”.
- The representatives of BIMSTEC member countries from India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka are participating in the exercise.
- Thailand and Bhutan are not participating this year.
BIMSTEC
- The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional multilateral organisation.
- This sub-regional organization came into being in 1997 through the Bangkok Declaration.
- Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan are its member countries.
- BIMSTEC’s Permanent Secretariat established in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
