- Tamilnadu State government has decided to observe the birth anniversary of Omandur P. Ramaswami Reddiar as a government function for the first time.
- Omandur P. Ramaswami Reddiar is the first Chief Minister of Madras state after Independence.
- Reddiar held the post of Chief Minister barely for two years (March 23, 1947 to April 6, 1949).
- Notable achievements of Omandurar are,
- For the first time in the country, reservation in public services for Backward Classes (14.29%) were reserved.
- 29% reservation were given to Scheduled Castes/Tribes
- Another milestone in his innings was the adoption of Devadasi abolition law.
