- Russia declared a federal state of emergency after an oil spill in the Black Sea.
- A Russian oil tanker named Volgoneft 212, carrying more than 4,000 tons of fuel, broke apart off the coast of Crimea.
- At least 3,700 tons of heavy oil were spilled.
- The incident has polluted approximately 55 kilometers (34 miles) of coastline.
