- Tamil Nadu government has chosen Mahabalipuram beach as a pilot project, in accordance with the principles of blue flag beach programme.
- As of now around 4,000 Blue Flags are waving around the world.
- Right now, there are two “Blue Flag” certified beaches in India, in Odisha and Gujarat.
