- India hosted "Bodhi Parva: BIMSTEC Festival of Buddhist Heritage" at the India Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi.
- It involves exhibition of international and Indian Buddhist art and architecture, discourses by eminent scholars of Buddhism, screening of film on Buddhism, dance and music performances etc.
- The festival was arranged as part of celebrations of 20th Anniversary of BIMSTEC and it will help in building an awareness of BIMSTEC's rich and common heritage.
- BIMSTEC (the Bay of Bengal Initiative for multi-sectoral technical and economic cooperation), comprises of India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
- Bay of Bengal Initiatives for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is the sub-regional grouping comprising seven countries of South Asia and South East Asia. These are: Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal.
- On 6 June 1997, a new sub-regional grouping was formed in Bangkok and given the name BIST-EC (Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand Economic Cooperation). Later Myanmar and Nepal joined this group, after which the organisation was renamed as BIMSTEC
- Nepal is the current Chair of the BIMSTEC. Its Secretariat is located in Dhaka.
