Canada has officially opened its first permanent year-round highway to the Arctic Ocean.
The highway will connect Tuktoyaktuk, a Canadian hamlet on the Arctic Ocean which was previously accessible only by air or winter ice road, to the southern parts of the country.
The connection means Canada will be linked by land all year to its three coasts - Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic.
The new 138km (85 miles) all-weather road extends the Dempster Highway from the Yukon to the northern coast.
