- It is a medium size wild cat found in parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
- It has been included into the list of critically endangered species by the National Board of Wildlife (NBWL).
- The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) is the apex body in India for all wildlife-related matters.
- Constituted in 2003, it is chaired by the Prime Minister.
- The Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change is the Vice-Chairperson of the Board.
- It is a statutory body constituted under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (WLPA).
- It approves projects (including government projects) in and around the protected areas such as national parks and wildlife sanctuaries etc.
