Singapore will impose a 'carbon tax' from 2019 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to fight climate change.
A tax of 5 Singapore dollars ($3.81) per tonne of greenhouse gas emissions will be levied from 2019 to 2023.
The tax would be imposed on facilities producing 25,000 tonnes or more of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
Singapore ranks 26th out of 142 countries in terms of based on the latest International Energy Agency data largely due to its small size and dense population.
