- The probe, the Chang'e-4, entered a planned orbit "to prepare for the first ever soft landing on the far side of the moon".
- The space probe is moving into position to land on the dark side of the moon for the first time.
- China launched the Chang'e-4 probe on December 08, carried by a Long March-3B rocket.
- Soft-landing on the far side is challenging because any direct communication between the rover and Earth will be blocked by the other hemisphere.
- To solve this, China launched a relay satellite, Queqiao, or Magpie Bridge, between Earth and the moon.
