Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health have published a new study in the Lancet Global Health on the deaths among children under five in India.
In 2015 the total number of children under five who died was 1.2 million (47.8 per 1,000)
It is the highest in the world.
Highest mortality rate was in Assam at 73.1 per 1,000 children. It was 9.7 in Goa.
Major causes of death were preterm complications and preventable infectious diseases.
Steps like vaccine coverage, improving childbirth and neonatal care can prevent such deaths.
