  • It is also called “Bal Diwas,” in honour of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first prime minister of India.
  • It aims to increase public awareness of children’s rights, care, and education.
  • To make local movies for children, Nehru founded the Children’s Film Society India in 1955.
  • After the death of Pandit Nehru in 1964, it was decided that his birthday be celebrated as Children's Day.
  • World Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20 and International Children’s Day is observed on June 1.
