  • The Odisha Wildlife Organization recently conducted a bird census in Chilika Lake.
  • The organization was joined by Chilika Development Authority and Bombay Natural History Society.
  • Chilika is the largest brackish water lake.
  • The three major bird species in the lake such as Northern pintail, Eurasian wigeon, and gadwall accounted for a count of one lakh.
  • In the 2022 count, the greater flamingo count reached the highest in the decade.
  • This is mainly due to the restoration of mudflats in Nalabana.
