The European parliament has declared a global “climate and environmental emergency” as it urged all EU countries to commit to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The resolution as crafted by Pascal Canfin, French Liberal, Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
Europe thus becomes the first continent to declare climate and environment emergency.
MEPs also call on the new European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to include a 55% reduction target of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in the European Green Deal.
