- The European parliament has declared a global “climate and environmental emergency” as it urged all EU countries to commit to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
- The resolution as crafted by Pascal Canfin, French Liberal, Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
- Europe thus becomes the first continent to declare climate and environment emergency.
- MEPs also call on the new European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to include a 55% reduction target of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in the European Green Deal.
