- The Grand Closing ceremony of the 44th Chess Olympiad held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
- The international chess event was held at Sheraton Mamallapuram Resort and Convention Centre near Chennai.
- The event witnessed players from across the globe representing 187 countries competing on 700 boards.
- The next edition of the FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held at Budapest, Hungary in September 2024.
- Manuel Aaron, the 86-year-old Grandmaster from Chennai who was India’s first International Master, is felicitated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
- A total of 17 Indians has won medals in the 44th Chess Olympiad.
- This includes 2 individual gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze each and 10 bronze for teams.
- In the open category, Uzbekistan, Armenia and India B teams won gold, silver and bronze respectively.
- India B team, consists of Praggnanandhaa, Gukesh, Nihal, Raunak and Adhiban.
- In the women's category, Ukraine, Georgia and India A team won gold, silver and bronze respectively.
- In the Indian Women's A team, Harika Dronavalli, Koneru Hampi, R. Vaishali, Bhakti Kulkarni and Tanya Sachdev were included.
- In the individual medals, awarded based on the success and rating of the players, the Indian young players Gukesh and Nihal Sareen won gold.
- A team player Arjun Erikaisi won silver and B team player Praggnanandhaa won bronze.
- Tanya Sachdev, Divya Deshmukh and R. Vaishali won bronze in women's category.
