- India’s C.A. Bhavani Devi made history by becoming the first Indian to win the gold medal in the senior Commonwealth fencing championship held in Canberra of Australia.
- The 25-year old Chennai girl defeated England’s Emily Ruaux in the final.
- Bhavani had earlier this year won a silver medal in the Tournoi Satellite Fencing Championship in Iceland.
