- Commonwealth Weightlifting championships were held at Apia, Samoa in Oceania.
- India topped the medal tally by winning 35 medals across three categories - 22 golds, 10 silvers and 3 bronze medals in all categories.
- P Anuradha of Tamil Nadu won gold in the 221 kg category.
