Country's first biofuel plant – Odisha

  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) will complete the commissioning of its second generation (2G) ethanol bio-refinery at Baulsingha village in Bargarh district by 2020.
  • This is the first bio fuel plant in the country where ethanol will be produced from rice straw.
  • Ethanol will be blended with petrol and used as fuel.
  • As per the National Biofuel Policy-2018, India has set the target of 20% ethanol blending to petrol by 2030. Currently only 3% or 4% Ethanol blending in petrol is available due to unavailability of the biofuel.
