- The Tamil Nadu government has announced the contours of the now proposed reorganisation of numerous local bodies.
- It will be including the merger of a large number of village panchayats with urban local bodies.
- The proposal also covers the creation of 13 municipalities and of 25 town panchayats.
- Among the proposed new municipalities are Kanniyakumari, Harur, and Perundurai.
- The government has also proposed establishing 25 town panchayats, including Yercaud, Kalayarkoil and Thirumayam.
- Besides, 29 village panchayats are likely to be merged with 25 town panchayats.
