- Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have jointly published this report.
- In August 2022, the year-on-year food inflation rate was about 94 per cent.
- Production of paddy rice, the main staple food, is estimated to be 3 million mt in 2022.
- It is the lowest since the 2017 drought-affected harvest.
- Around 6.3 million people in Sri Lanka are experiencing moderate to severe acute food insecurity.
- The production of maize (used as animal feed) is some 40 per cent below the past 5-year average.
