- Cuba’s National Assembly has elected Cuba’s First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel to replace Raul Castro, who took over as Cuba’s leader in 2006.
- Raul Castro will remain, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, a member of the National Assembly.
- It is the first time were the leader of the Communist Party and the leader of the government are different people.
