  • Miguel Díaz-Canel was officially named as the President of Cuba.
  • He is elected as a president in the secret voting held in the country's National Assembly.
  • It's the first time in nearly six decades that Cuba is being led by a man not named Castro.
  • Cuba’s National Assembly has elected Cuba’s First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel to replace  Raul Castro, who took over as Cuba’s leader in 2006.
  • Raul Castro will remain, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, a member of the National Assembly.
  • It is the first time were the leader of the Communist Party and the leader of the government are different people.
