RBI has issued new guidelines to set up Currency chests.
The central bank has stipulated that the currency chests should have CBL (Chest Balance Limit) of Rs 1,000 crore, subject to reasonable restrictions.
The new chests should have a processing capacity of 2.1 lakh pieces of banknotes per day in hilly, inaccessible areas and 6.6 lakhs pieces of note in all other areas.
Currency chests are branches of selected banks authorised by the RBI to stock rupee notes and coins and to distribute them.
