Current Account Deficit

  • The Reserve Bank of India has stated that India’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) increased to $57.2 billion or 2.1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Financial Year 2019.
  • It is the highest in 6 years due to higher trade deficit caused by high crude oil imports.
  • CAD was only $48.7 billion or 1.8% of the GDP in Financial year 2018.
