Indian Police Officer Jitender Kumar, an Indian peacekeeper, is among the 119 military, police and civilian personnel who will be honoured this year with Dag Hammarskjöld Medal.
It is a prestigious UN medal for courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.
Officer Jitender Kumar sacrificed his life while working in an UN Stabilisation Mission in the war torn Central African country of Congo.
Started in 1997, this medal is given in memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations.
He died in a plane crash in 1961 while en route to cease-fire negotiations during the Congo Crisis.
