- Supreme Court has dismissed Tamilnadu’s petition asking to stay the construction of a dam across Thenpennai River by Karnataka.
- Karnataka has started constructing a 50-metre-high dam across Markandey, a tributary of Thenpennai river.
- The river originates in Chennakesava hills of Karnataka.
- It travels 432 kilometres through Hosur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thiruvannamalai and Villupuram and reaches the sea.
