- The Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare launched Decade of Healthy Ageing (2020-2030) in India on International Day for Older Persons (1st October).
- It is an opportunity to bring together governments, civil society etc. for ten years of concerted action to improve the lives of older people.
- As per Census 2011, the total population of Senior Citizens (people aged 60 years and above) is 10.38 crore.
- The share of senior citizens in the total population as per Census 2011 is 8.57%.
