  • Rajinder Khanna, former chief of Research and Analysis Wing (India's external intelligence agency), was appointed as new deputy national security advisor.
  • Rajinder Khanna joined R&AW in 1978 and was the first chief of the agency to be directly recruited into the Research and Analysis Service cadre.
  • As deputy NSA, Khanna will lead India's security-related dialogue with a host of countries across Eurasia, Gulf and Southeast Asia.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by PM Modi, has approved Khanna's appointment as deputy NSA.
