- Approximately 40 per cent of people living with diabetes don't even know it, they remain undiagnosed.
- The research has found that the majority of undiagnosed cases are concentrated in certain regions, with Africa topping the list at 60 per cent.
- It is followed closely by south-east Asia at 57 per cent and the western Pacific region at 56 per cent.
- In 2021, nearly 7 million deaths worldwide were attributed to diabetes, with over USD 970 billion spent on treatment.
