The Supreme Court issued guidelines to monitor the speedy disposal of criminal cases against Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs).
The SC said that it would be difficult for it to form a uniform guideline for trial courts relating to speedy disposal of cases against MP/MLAs.
It also asked the high courts to set up a special bench to monitor criminal trials against lawmakers.
High Courts may call upon special lower courts for reports on the status of trials against lawmakers in criminal cases.
The district judges have been asked to ensure sufficient infrastructure and technological facilities for designated special courts trying lawmakers.
Further, the top court has asked High Courts to register a Suo motu cases for effective monitoring and disposal of cases involving MPs/MLAs.
