Doorstep care to cut deaths due to diabetes & BP – TN

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to launch a programme that will take clinics to people’s homes across the state and offer home-based dialysis units to people with chronic renal failure.
This is done with the aim to bring down by 50% nearly five lakh deaths caused ever year due to non-communicable diseases in the state.
The state will launch a mass screening programme for 10 days as a precursor to the doorstep medical care programme and check for blood sugar and blood pressure
Under ‘makkalai thedi maruthuvam’ scheme, those diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension will undergo preliminary screening and consultation at the government primary health centre.
