Doorstep care to cut deaths due to diabetes & BP – TN

  • The Tamil Nadu government has decided to launch a programme that will take clinics to people’s homes across the state and offer home-based dialysis units to people with chronic renal failure.
  • This is done with the aim to bring down by 50% nearly five lakh deaths caused ever year due to non-communicable diseases in the state.
  • The state will launch a mass screening programme for 10 days as a precursor to the doorstep medical care programme and check for blood sugar and blood pressure
  • Under ‘makkalai thedi maruthuvam’ scheme, those diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension will undergo preliminary screening and consultation at the government primary health centre.
