- The Union Environment Ministry's Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) has cleared the proposal to construct the Pen Memorial.
- It has recommended for coastal zone clearance (CRZ) with nearly 15 conditions.
- The CRZ clearance is also subject to the final order of the National Green Tribunal, Southern Zone.
- The project - ‘Muthamizh Arignar Dr Kalaignar Pen’ memorial being proposed to be built at a cost of over Rs 81 crore.
