The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India has introduced the Drone (Amendment) Rules 2023.
It aims to liberalize, promote, and streamline drone operations across the country, with a vision to establish India as a global drone hub by 2030.
One of the most significant changes brought about by the amendments is the relaxation of the previously stringent requirements for obtaining a Remote Pilot Certificate.
Previously, a passport was mandatory to apply for this crucial document.
It is creating obstacles for numerous aspiring drone pilots, particularly in rural areas and the agricultural sector.
Individuals can now use government-issued proof of identity and proof of address, such as Voter ID, Ration Card, or Driving License, to apply for the certificate.
Only individuals holding a valid Remote Pilot Certificate registered on the digital sky platform are authorized to operate unmanned aircraft systems in India.
However, for non-commercial drone use, no Remote Pilot Certificate is required for drones weighing up to 2 kg.
