- An assessment report on groundwater by the Central ground water board under the Ministry of Jal Shakti was released recently.
- India is the largest user of Groundwater, accounting for 1/4th of total withdrawal.
- Water Extraction is very high in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan etc.
- 87% of Ground Water is used for Irrigation.
