- The upcoming assembly elections in five states will witness the roll-out of the Election Commission's latest technology initiative.
- It will enhance transparency in monitoring use of money power and poll inducements as well as action taken by central and state enforcement agencies against such offences.
- The technology is called Election Seizure Management System (ESMS).
- This is a platform where all the central and state enforcement agencies will be onboarded.
- It will require them to upload details of every recorded movement and seizure of illicit cash, liquor, drugs etc.
- This will also, enabling real-time updates from the field as well as coordination and intelligence-sharing between such agencies.
- The rise in seizures between the latest poll and election before that was 2,184% in Tripura, 1,150% in Nagaland, 6,627% in Meghalaya, 2,862% in Gujarat, 533% in HP and 200% in Uttarakhand.
