Exit of Bengal from ‘Modicare’

  • West Bengal has become the first state in the country to opt out of 'Modicare', ambitious healthcare insurance plan, that was announced by the Central government’s in the Union Budget.
  • The Bengal government has Claimed that it had already enrolled 50 lakh people under its own Swasthya Sathi programme, state Health Insurance Cover.
  • Union Finance Minister had announced the National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS) on February 1.
  • It is the  biggest global plan to provide quality health cover to a population larger than the combined citizenry of the US, UK, Germany and France.
