  • Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and Mamata Banerjee rung the customary Eden Bell at Eden gardens cricket ground in Kolkata and inaugurated the first Day/Night test match.
  • Unlike the traditional start time of 9:30 am for Test matches in India, play will start at 1 pm IST and end by 8:00 pm.
  • Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque elected to bat in what is the “first pink ball Test” for the two countries.
  • The first Day/Night Test match was played between Australia and New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval from November 27, 2015 to December 1, 2015.

Pink Ball

  • Test matches are played with a red ball but in case of Day/Night Tests, because the natural light fades away and artificial lights come in effect, a pink coloured ball is used.
  • In India, cricket balls including pink balls are supplied by sports equipment supplier Sanspareils Greenland (SG), Meerut.
