- R. Chandrasekaran has been appointed the first permanent director of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) located in Chennai.
- CICT is an autonomous Institute of higher research functioning under the Ministry of Human Resources Development established in 2006.
- It was formerly known as the Centre of Excellence for Classical Tamil (CECT).
- It had been functioning at the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore.
- In May 2008, the CECT was moved to Chennai and was rechristened as the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT).
- The Institute is responsible for the Kural Peedam Award.
